Ice Factory 2017
at the New OHIO, July 26-29, 2017
A smoker’s cessation group resurrects Aldous Huxley.
Doomsday preppers take on the biggest blackout in NYC history.
Robots occupy our future.
THE ANTHROPOLOGISTS’ SAVE THE WORLD! is a triptych of plays fusing explosive anecdotes, absurd interludes and invigorating movement to examine the precarious role of the individual in the age of climate change.
Part screwball comedy, part nihilism and dash of good old American bravado.
In THE LECTURE, the technically deceased Aldous Huxley has something important to say. Set in a dull community room, a smoking cessation group discovers that their usual facilitator has been replaced. When instead they’re treated to a lecture on humans and climate disaster, there’s only one possible outcome: isn't it easier to kill the messenger than fess up to one’s addiction?
THE BLACKOUT plunges us into the basement headquarters of a Doomsday Prepper’s colony threatened by their own self-destruction. In the wake of a long-term power loss from a Russian hacking scandal, NYU Adjunct Professor of Environmental Studies and Sustainability, Oscar Jung and his collaborators - his Adjunct Sociology professor wife Marion, an exchange student from Iceland, a renegade journalist - are trying to prove to the city that an alternative energy grid is possible! But what does it mean when NYC’s first radical act is to reopen a local McDonalds?
THE ROBOT imagines a not-so-distant future. Marion and Oscar’s child finds himself in a country overrun by Robots where humans are merely accessories in the new world order.
