Mock Trial

 

When a middle school mock trial team is assigned to prosecute a KKK member, they turn the tables on their white teacher by putting them on trial for propagation of racist ideas and narratives. Mock Trial is an exploration of how racism is taught or untaught and our own role in undoing a history of oppression. Taking full advantage of the middle school setting, Mock Trial will traverse an emotional, often uproarious, landscape of the subtle and not-so-subtle ways in which racism and white supremacy is taught and upheld by the American school system.

 

This play will be collaboratively devised using cultural artifacts, source material and personal narrative.
